Attending your first meeting takes courage, what these meeting can provide though is a comforting network of support, friendship, and understanding that only those who have been there can give. The meetings are a time for sharing stories, experiences, and emotions. We share a common bond, so we are free to express any emotion: anger, sadness, frustration, and sometimes even laughter.

  • Monthly Support Groups

We offer a number of traditional support groups for adult survivors. The emotions experienced after homicides are unique and something that is only fully understood by other survivors. At our support groups, you are able to sit and talk with other survivors about their reactions, without fear of judgment or you can just take the time to listen

  •  Walk and Talk Support GroupWe recognize that for some survivors, sitting and talking about what happened in their lives can be difficult. We also find that exercise and movement can be very beneficial in the healing process. In our Walk and Talk Support Group, survivors meet at Reid Park to take a stroll around the park. This group is closed from Memorial Day to Labor Day but then will resume in the fall, see our calendar or contact our office for more information
  • Healing through YogaHealing through Yoga is a trauma-informed yoga session where survivors have a chance to safely experiment with movement, breathwork, and meditation as a vehicle for healing. This alternative form of therapy and healing was launched in the summer of 2018. Survivors participate in a one-hour class that concludes with an optional essential oil therapy with a gentle neck and head massage. This is an all-levels yoga class, no experience necessary and beginners are welcome!
  • Equine TherapyHomicide Survivors has been providing Equine Therapy to survivors since the fall of 2016. This equine-interactive psychotherapy has an extremely powerful and positive emotional impact on survivors as they travel through the difficult path towards healing. To get involved in this contact our office.

“In February I was given the life changing experience to do Equine Therapy, and it was just that, life changing. I learned to forgive and become so understanding.”

“Equine gave me so much and I was finally able to take my life back.”

Equine therapy sessions are seasonal. Please contact our office for dates, times & location.

  •  Alternative Support Groups

Our Alternative Support Group was implemented by Homicide Survivor Advocate Sylvia Alvarez, in hopes of creating a different atmosphere for our survivors and breaking away from the traditional support group setting. These groups meet at various locations around town and offer survivors an opportunity to heal by participating in a variety of group activities.
